Q & A

Some Commonly Asked Questions and Answers

When was MMS founded: 1967.

How do we know that MMS is a “true” Montessori school?
Each Mildenhall Montessori School is fully accredited by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators and participates in regular re-accreditation procedures.

What is the difference between your School and other private and public schools?
MMS Schools provide an enriched Montessori education for children ages 2 ½ to 12years old. All three campuses employ highly educated and trained teachers who possess University degrees along with Montessori diplomas. Fully accredited by the CCMA, our Schools follow the Montessori method closely. Our classrooms are equipped with Montessori apparatus and materials that require the student to use all five senses while benefiting from a warm, functional and prepared environment. Unlike other private and public schools, MMS provides lessons to students on a one-on-one basis or in small groups, and children learn at their own pace which eliminates stress on the student. And with our smaller class sizes our teachers can focus more time on individual students.

What is the meaning behind the three-year cycle?
Montessori classes generally place children in three-year age groups 2 ½ or 3 - 6 (Casa), 6 - 9 (Lower Elementary, grades 1 - 3) and 9 - 12 (Upper Elementary, grades 4 - 6). Students in a classroom form a community of learners where older children naturally assist younger children with everyday activities, such as tying shoes or buttoning jackets, and with their work. They naturally take the lead in a Casa classroom facilitating knowledge and experience to the younger students while acquiring new skills and achievement. And the younger students eagerly observe and copy the activities/work of their older mentors.

Where do the children go after the Casa program?
All students are enrolled for the entire program offered at MMS. Casa graduates at Taddle Creek go straight to grade 1 in the Elementary program. At HPGMS they go straight to grade 1 in the Elementary program, or they may go to our sister school, HPCMS, located at 35 Ourland Ave. We provide a complementary bus service between HPGMS and HPCMS for those students who live closer to HPGMS.

Where do the students go after completing the Elementary program?
Elementary graduates have been accepted at all of the major independent schools in Toronto as well as local public and religious schools. They adapt quickly and easily to their new school environments, often becoming class leaders within the first few months and often being accelerated in French or other subjects. Some of the schools they have attended include Appleby College, Branksome Hall, Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, City View Alternative Public School, De La Salle, Havergal College, John G. Althouse (Gifted Program), Kingsway College, Mentor College, Norseman Public School, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Schools, Royal St. George’s, Runnymede Public School, St. Clement’s School, St. Michael’s College, St. Mildred’s, Sterling Hall, The Bishop Strachan School, Toronto French School, University of Toronto Schools, Upper Canada College.
