A Marvelous Mitten Tree

Posted On: February 14, 2012 - 3:38pm

On December 6th, the children of High Park Gardens Montessori School were invited to bring in hats, mittens, scarves and sweaters to decorate a mitten tree inside the school. All items were then donated to the Women's Habitat of Etobicoke. Organized by parents Elaine McWhirter and John O’Flaherty, and the HPGMS Parents' Association, the tree was adorned with dozens of warm items which will be both appreciated and put to good use during this chilly time of the year.

Montessori Education Week, February 20th-24th

Posted On: February 14, 2012 - 3:23pm

The beauty and celebratory nature of Montessori is upon us!  As you may or may not know, Montessori Week falls on the week of February 20th.  And who do we have to thank? It was the work of the very famous Maria Montessori who, over a century ago, through scientific observation realized the intrinsic nature of children.  Have a conversation with any of the staff at HPGMS about this stunning lady and they will surely reiterate to you her brilliance and absolute genius!  And if you’re a parent here, well, need I say more?

Montessori White Board - Trevor Eissler

Posted On: December 5, 2011 - 3:15pm

Trevor Eissler is a parent who was so impressed by the Montessori method of teaching he wrote a fabulous book called Montessori Madness. I had the opportunity to hear Trevor speak at the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA) conference a few years back and still remember his enthusiasm and gumption for the world of Montessori.  His "Parent to Parent Argument for Montessori Education" has gone viral and is definitely worth checking out! As a Montessori parent, you’ll be glad you did (the visual appeal alone is fantastic)

So the next time someone says to you, “Why Montessori?”, or “What is Montessori?” refer them to this little gem.
