Taddle Creek Montessori School | Principal
Matt Smith joined the Taddle Creek Montessori School in the position of Principal in August 2015.
Matt is a Toronto native, who completed his Bachelor of Arts in History at Western University. He has outstanding Montessori credentials, including receiving his AMI Elementary diploma in Bergamo, Italy, and his Montessori Adolescent Studies diploma in Cleveland, Ohio. He has taught both Montessori elementary and middle school since 2004, at some of the finest Montessori schools in Ontario, including Montessori Academy of London in London Ontario, Humberside Montessori School in Toronto, and Clanmore Montessori School in Oakville. He founded the adolescent programs at Humberside and Clanmore with great success.
In addition to being a committed educator and Montessorian, Matt is an avid outdoorsman, photographer and guitar player and worked for a decade as the Camp Director at Camp Hurontario in Georgian Bay. Matt's two boys attend Taddle Creek Montessori.
WHERE HAVE YOU LIVED IN THE WORLD?
I was born in Toronto and have lived in Toronto, London (Ontario), Jalcomulco, Mexico, and Bergamo, Italy.
WHAT HAVE YOU STUDIED? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A TEACHER?
I completed a BA in History at King's College/Western University, and an AMI Elementary Diploma from CISM in Bergamo Italy. I have taught for 15 years. I got my education at school, but also at summer camp, on canoe trips, traveling, from my mom and dad, my lovely wife, my two boys, my friends, colleagues, and students.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT?
I have a special talent for backwards cursive writing.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WHEN YOU AREN’T AT SCHOOL?
When I am not at school, I like playing guitar and singing, running and biking, and camping with family and friends.
WHAT IS SOMETHING NOT EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT YOU?
If you knew me really well, you would know that I love the outdoors.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MOST FAVOURITE THINGS?
I love to read a diverse array of books - both fiction and non - but I have a special fondness for spy novels and the incredible works of Dick Francis.
