This week is all about STEAM education aka Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math education. Specifically, STEAM refers to the integration of these subjects with a focus on investigation, exploration, and then conclusion. Sounds a lot like what Montessori schools have been doing for over a 100 years. We're so glad it's caught on.
It's certainly not the ONLY way, but it's been proven to be the BEST way to build a depth of understanding. We find that when our students explore and discover fundamental concepts themselves, that understanding exists forever. It's not a memorized fact or formula, but a retrievable and flexible knowledge that can be applied in multiple contexts (not just a test or exam).
How did you learn math in school? What experience do you want your child to have? Shout out to the students: what's your favourite math material in school?
